You can use iMovie which comes as part of iLife with Macs. For PCs, Adobe Premiere Elements is OK. For working across XP and OSX, try the old awesome Premiere 6.5. If your project involves digital literacy with a diverse range of storytellers, you may want to avoid software with small or confusing buttons and text like Final Cut Pro and Avid.
